Disks "disappear" after some time

Hi,

Bought the quad sata hat kit and installed it with my RPI4.
I am using raspbian and have already installed the drivers via script as per wiki instructions.

Initially when the nas kit was started, i can see my disks /dev/sd*.
After the kit has been on for some time, it suddenly lock up and doing ls /dev/sd* may not turn up anything or it simply shows just /dev/sda /dev/sda1.
I have more than one HDD installed.

May i know how i do i resolve this issue.

Let me know what diagnostic output is required and i will post them here.

I started seeing same stuff yesterday and saw this in the dmesg:

Try adding over_voltage=1 to /boot/config.txt and rebooting.

Tried this option and still the same.
Drive still “disappears”.

@setq some generic 12V 5A one…But I’ve reinstalled Raspbian and it seems working back again, so I’m suspecting its on software level somehow…

My second drive will disappear after some time -
/dev/sdb* is not there.

I’m using LVM to group the drives together.

Please swap the locations of the two hard drives to exclude the hard drive itself.

You can follow that tutorial and edit /boot/cmdline.txt to disable uas.
That’s what i did.

I swapped the harddrives and they no longer “disappear”.
However, there are now more input/output errors:

“cp: error reading ‘…/ISO/ubuntu.iso’: Input/output error”

I have also attached the picture of the drives below.

Same issue dirve disapers and it moved, so far had it in bays 1 and 4 and different disks.

I find if i reboot or pull power and reconnect it does not come back. however if i pull the disks our of the hat then reseat them it comes back.

Looks like bad contact. I want to know if the hole position of the case cover is exact.

I have tried this with the Cover off, and the drives that fail are random. some time one some time 2, 3 or all 4. All are WD 2Tbyte 2.5 inch Blue drives and work fine in other caddies.

So I am not sure what to say, I am using the same Power supply that came with the kit but if it is going ot be this unstable I think I might be considering returning it.

At the moment i have 2 issues

  1. The heat even with tweaks the drives are running 50 degrees and under load hoter to the point the case it almost to hot to touch.

  2. The drives disapearing. the idea for this was to have 4 drives in raid for resillence. but that was so unstable I ended up with 4 seperate drives but now ever 24-48 hours one drive goes of line and i need to power it down and restart it a bunch fo times to get it bck untill it fails again.

This is not fit for purpose in its current state,

When jsut retarting it now I get a red light on one of the disks but not sure how to tell what is the issue drive is not showing up at all under the OS
