rock@linux:~$ <= this?
Ubuntu desktop 2 logins needed
I kill vnc using 1) i.e vncserver -kill :1. Double login mean locally, when power on, directly using keyboard and mouse
Here is the capture from the terminal, opened locally, I saved steps during installation
rock@linux:~$ python -V
Python 2.7.15+
rock@linux:~$ python3 -V
Python 3.6.8
It is really a good suggestion. I will test it tomorrow and inform you at once.
Thank you very much!!!
but I don’t want to face it again. Here are my installation steps, don’t know useful or not
- sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-core && sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-desktop (Fails on something)
- sudo apt-get update && upgrade
- repeat 1) success
- Install Nano
- Install SSH server
- Install VNC
- Install FTP Server
- Install Pip
- Install pandas
- Install schedule
- Install Urllib
- Install Chromium , selenium
- Install Nodejs, express, joi
- Install MQTT
Using the Ubuntu 64 image https://dl.radxa.com/rockpi/images/ubuntu/rockpi4b-ubuntu-bionic-minimal-20190104_2101-gpt.img.gz
You should be able to sudo -i
apt-get -y update
apt-get -y upgrade
apt -y dist-upgrade
apt-get install ubuntu-minimal tasksel nano
Use tasksel
to install your your mate version or desktop of choice and any other options from tasksel you wish.
tasksel is a really good common simple console graphical interface that suits all levels of competence and its extremely easy to add new tasks to the list and also means you don’t have to remember package or script names.
Its basically the RockPi4’s Raspi-Config already exists and just needs a few Radxa definitions to make it so.
With the Ubuntu desktop 2 logins needed title header the only thing needed after desktop install was.
touch /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/12-autologin.conf
echo "[SeatDefaults]" > /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/12-autologin.conf
echo "autologin-user=rock" >> /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/12-autologin.conf
Maybe install things incrementally desktop first reboot
and see how it goes sudo tasksel
to add others later.
Chromium
wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libj/libjpeg-turbo/libjpeg62-turbo_1.5.1-2_arm64.deb
sudo dpkg -i libjpeg62-turbo_1.5.1-2_arm64.deb
then install chromium I never did really check as it was just a quick fix but prob apt-get install libjpeg-turbo
does the same.
Also cevaps update collection can be found @ https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StuartIanNaylor/Rockpi4B-Scripts/master/rockpi4-packages.sh
@anon77784915 nope the pcie bridge is as dead as a norwegian blue
Already have and got another RockPi4b
Thanks, just tested, even I reinstall again, but just desktop, still occur. One thing alert me is that the first login screen, a “localhost.localdomain” is shown at top-left hand corner, second login screen, change to “linux”.

I don’t know why too, even I reinstall it again. What I did today are
- sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-core && sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-desktop
- sudo apt-get update && upgrade (coz something goes wrong in step1)
- sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-core && sudo apt install ubuntu-mate-desktop
- reboot
- need to login twice
@Sramctc just burn your image again start fresh, try again.
Worked for me and think I tried it multiple times and so has cevap his way also.
Thanks, I do flash the image to SD card again, even try another SD
Do you mean install lxdm instead of mate? then no, but I will try. Thanks
sudo apt-get install -y lxde-core lxde
- sudo apt-get update $$ upgrade (coz something went wrong)
sudo apt-get install -y lxde-core lxde
- reboot
entering password, enter, “Fail to start session”
Dear cevap, when I installed the mate desktop (or lxde), it raised errors. What I could do is to update and upgrade and installed desktop again.
Dear cevap,
Here is one of the errors
“No usable dialog-like program is installed, so the dialog based frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/per15/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline”.
Not sure spelling is 100% correct or not because I cannot copy those errors but recorded it down by hand.
Thanks
Its your locales settings you haven’t done the basics with tzdata and locales.
The image is less than ubuntu-minimal but if you apt-get install ubuntu-minimal it will prompt for locales, tz and keyboard and also stop those errors.
Thanks, I’ll try next week. Have a nice weekend.
Dear cevap,
really really appreciate your help … As I remember, this issue occurred just after installing mate desktop.
