I have started using, what i noticed, this USB type connection for HDD not allowed in current OMV version using for create RAID, only use as quad SATA mobil rack, i can create the raid only with command line. OMV support says, USB type connection not stable to create RAIDs so, removed this feature in the new versions.
But i have a question, about one of the features:
Ii have read, the hat also have direct USB conenction feature, how this works?
I need plug the power supply, remove the double USB connector and connect one of the USB 3.0 port with USB A- USB A cabel? and after will be 1,2 or 4 connected HDD?
Basically Your usb bridge is just tight, small, fitted double usb-A usb-A cable,
If You connect one port then two sata ports will be visible, like on picture from dual SATA HAT
Do You know that there is also hardware RAID built in there? It can’t create RAID5 from all drive but works much better than software RAID and this makes mdadm don’t needed anymore in OMV7. Its also stable, much more than anything else via USB on pi4.
So, if im remove the dual USB ,bridge" connector, and im put power suply on the hat (or wont required?) plus im put a USB-A - USB-A cabel one of the hat USB ports - PC, i will see two drive like a mobil rack?
Yeah i have read about this manual command line opction, lot people pre-made the raid so and after using the OMV, tricking out the limitations.
Yes - it should connect with Your PC using that cable, basically it’s just usb device and same chip was used on many drive enclosures. Power adapter is needed, mainly for disks - that won’t work via USB (2A only).
With PC You will not get some functionalities related to GPIO, like fan control, LCD and RTC. Those uses standard protocolos on GPIO.
