Background:
I purchased complete Raspberry Pi 4B quad sata hat/4 WD 2TB 2.5 SATA hdd and got it working straight up with OMV + RAID 10 as nas and tickled with it but need more capacity.
Purchased another board + psu only from AllChina.net as WD 4TB 2.5 sata drives will not fit in the enclosure for the full kit as they are too thick. Got it working and went to bed waiting for mdadm to sync drives and all 4 blue lights flashing nicely. Got up in the morning and only 2 blue lights on; no flashing and only /dev/sda & /dev/sdb devices visible in Linux. I have reinstalled os (buster 32 & 64 bit) and rockpi-sata.service software and jMicron fix & firmware update countless times. I replaced the Raspberry Pi. I switched the usb bridge connectors between both sata hats. I tried A-A usb cables 3.0 type in place of bridge. Still only 2 blue lights and still only /dev/sda & /dev/sdb. I connected the 4TB drives to the first sata hat board and they work correctly. I swapped psu from other kit. All four drives are spinning up. At the moment all I have is a very expensive piece of JUNK. I can’t find anything else to try from the forum to fix issue. Methinks the sata hat is duff as I have exchanged/swapped everything else. What to do?

Quad SATA Raspberry Pi Hat blues
I’m sorry for the bad experience.
The 4TB hard drive doesn’t fit either the box or the slot. How did you install it? Can you send some photos?
Please also provide dmesg
by the way.
not using the case and modding ( using cable extensions it could work im even thinking doing this my self so i can provide my own cooling tho the drives: gpio cable extension, sata (data and power extensions) some acrilic cnc casing for mounting the 4 harddrives and provide the pi4 better cooling also. 2 80mm high static pressure fans and some custom cabling for powering the additional hardware.
Hi
Tks for responding. I am using a micro tower case to house all (plus another rpi) and hoping to eventually connect it all up to the internal case atx psu instead of the 12v 60w psu supplied by AllChina but currently the setup is removed from the case for swapping out boards, cables etc whilst trying to find the problem. The rpi+SATA hat are connected together using standoffs supplied with the kit (as in the full kit), the hss’s are standing on their edges and drives/cpu units connected together using the SATA cables. A photograph at this time would be difficult but if you insist I shall endevour to supply pics. I am using standard SATA male to female cables approximately 12 inches long to connect between the SATA board and hdd’s. The cables work fine as I have tried them with other hdd units without issue.
I have tried the drive/cable combination with my other SATA hat kit setup and all 4 blue lights do light up when power is applied.
After sending my message I decided to look over the SATA hat board with the 40x magnifier and unfortunately I did notice many solder joints on the top side of the board which looked to be quite possibly dodgy. Instead of being nice and shiny many were dark gray and grainy looking blobs, typical of a solder joint where the solder did not flow correctly, indicating possible bad solder joints. All solder connections on the bottom looked fine.
Here is all the dmesg (filtered containing usb), lsusb, etc, info.

Update
After leaving the sata hat setup sit for a few days now upon startup/restart of pi on sata hat sometimes get 1 light, sometimes 2, sometimes 1 on with 1 blinking, sometimes no lights. Also lsblk sometimes shows sda, sometimes sda + sdb, and sometimes neither. Reloaded sd card with fresh os and reinstalled the sata hat software but got same aqs above still. Should I return to ALLNET China for replacement?

The dmesg looks normal, but from what you have described, the hat may be broken. You can contact Allnet to replace it with a new one.
The problem is definitely the sata hat board. I ordered another from Allnet China. That board was received yesterday, is working perfectly for almost 24 hours and close examination of it does not reveal any traces of possible dry solder joints. I will contact Allnet and see if I can get a refund for the defective board.
Tks.
