Introduce ROCK 5B - ARM Desktop level SBC

Having seen some videos on YouTube of other RK3588 products, out of the box this SOC is going to be very popular and based upon the pricing, the Rock 5 is clearly going to be hot property.

When it gets to gaming handhelds it could potentially clean up in the budget market.

The AMLogic sector will be decimated.

Just waiting for one to at least get to reviewers so that we can see just how good this baby looks to be.

you cannot write that I have been modest.
:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

However with that specifications who wouldnā€™t get it? :yum:

P.S. OT : This may I was expecting new ARM architecture but no leaks of new cores

Totally agree. Taki Udon and ETA Prime showcased the rk3588 and those two videos were uploaded roughly six weeks ago, between the two vids covering sbcā€™s or just the rk3588 soc have over 700,000 views! Yeah this system on a chip is garnering major attention already and it still isnā€™t out yet. Iā€™ve owned a sbc with an Amlogic soc for going on three years. I also believe Amlogic with their locked hw blobs and obsolete instruction set dealing with 32bit only abiā€™s is done for. It is what it is I suppose. But yeah this Rock5b is something that has peaked the interest of software devs, tinkerers, tech enthusiasts, retro emulation junkies and even simple folk who just want some new cool technology to play around with. Iā€™m excited

Hence why I would love to see the lower cost RK3358S in a Rock5A format that is cut down as much for cost as possible, think that would be just as popular maybe even more so.
Compute version is OK but tends to more commercial/industrial uses and would love to see what price Radxa could knock out a Rock5A out at.

It appears that ARM has moved away from their usual late-May designs launch. Perhaps only for this year due to possible distraction from nVidia failed acquisition, perhaps not.

I think his aim was fair given the SoC for SBCs are historically late by more than a few generations architecture-wise. Even the one with ARM A76+A55 (our much awaited RK3588) is not yet available for normal users.

The next is supposedly a new Architecture even if Armv9 is more sales speak than anything fundementally different than v8

But guess the big to little of x1, x3, x4 is a different arrangement and will have to see how that works out.

Do we have a release date window :anguished:? Q4?

Nothing firm yet latest update I have seen says Q3 and is also prefixed ā€˜expectedā€™

I think the Zero2 will be released 1st so likely until you see that you know its still not avail.

Based upon size, features, and (hopefully) price, my desire has shifted towards acquiring a Zero2, so I hope the Zero2 does arrive at retail first. Iā€™m set upon the RS105-D4E128H.

Will it be available at ameriDroid? Will there be an early buyers discount as for the Rock5?

Donā€™t think there will as they seem to have set the models already whilst the discount for Rock5 was as a tempter to evaluate which models would be of interest.
The price and when is what many are waiting for and did expect the RZ2 by nowā€¦ ?

So, it is Q2, the date the shipping was announced. Can someone clarify (with sources) when the shipping starts?

I really want this not to be vaporware, because for 6 months now there is an acrylic case, an SSD, a full copper passive cooler and a USB-C-20W-PD power brick waiting for it. And ameridroid got the money for the 16GB version for now also 6 months.
#Pleasebenovaporware!

We are preparing a rock 5b developer debug party now. Will unveil more details soon.

Btw, your 20W PD power brick is not enough, SSD eat 10W peak only.

Thank you for that information!

OK, thanks.

On the RK3588 TRM it reads

Two of the USB3.0 controller (marked as USB3OTG_0 and USB3OTG_1) in PD_USB can act as static host, static device, USB2.0/3.0 OTG A device or B device basing on the status of input ID from USB2.0 PHY.

Does the USB ports on Rock 5 support device mode / OTG mode at USB 3.0 speed?

Thanks

USB C supports OTG mode with power and DP Alt mode.

would any of the USB 3.0 A ports support OTG?

In theory, there is one USB 3.0 A port can be used as OTG, we will test this.
