eSata not powering 3.5 HDD

Greetings,

I’m using a 12V5A DC jack to power the hat plus a Pi5 and 4x SSDs.
If I connect a 5v HDD to the eSata it powers on and the blue LED turns on, but with a 12V HDD it doesn’t work. I’ve tried three different HDDs and same behaviour.
These are only 12V0.45A drives so there should still be plenty of power left.
Is there anything I need to activate via software or a jumper maybe? I couldn’t find anything in the wiki.
Thank you.

Hi,
You just have to get a new eSATA cable supporting 12V. Unfortunately the one in the box is only supporting 5V. I had exactly the same problem and now all working fine.
