Support for the Mali G720 coming to panthor kernel driver

Patches have been sent out to add support for the G720 to panthor:
https://lore.kernel.org/dri-devel/20250320111741.1937892-1-karunika.choo@arm.com/

Even more interestingly they come directly from Arm rather than one of the Collabora developers. So, that’s a good sign for upstream support :crossed_fingers:

This is very good news, unfortunately Colabora is lagging behind with Panfrost mesa driver not supporting geo shaders (what limits OpenGL to 3.1) and PanVK is still very broken.

BTW, the CIX soc have the Inmortalis G720 not the Mali G720, since Inmortalis have RT hardware im petty sure its not the same thing.

Please take a look next time as this patchset handles G310, G510, G710, G715, G720, G725. Including “Immortalis” models of those.

And even if it is lacking something in OpenGL or Vulcan it is a proper step into FOSS driver. The sooner 6.1.44-cix can be forgotten, the better.

Well, it should have been mentioned in the patch notes. Because the code mentions the G620, the G925, etc no idea if that should work or not or it is just the ID.

When will we see this driver and the next kernel ?
