Hi,
I created a small housing for rock 5B, which is especially for persuated Artic fanboys
It supports the heatsink from Ali, which can be mounted fins pointing the long direction and supports a 40x40x10 fan, like the 5V Sunon EE40100S2-1000U …

I wish Radxa had just put the switches on standard mobo jumpers so we can have as fancy wired switches as you wish than thoose horrid through hole on board ones.
I have one of those heatsinks and without a fan it seems for more cooler than the ‘Blue Passive’ as its not much bigger but I think it lies flatter as the mounts are slightly offset which doesn’t work well with a thermal pad.
Temps passive max out at approx 75c whilst the blue passive went all the way to the 85c throttle.
Also been wondering about some risers so all gpio as at the front with 2 rows of IO.
Had some probs find the right fan with the right 2pin connector and think its easier to buy any 5v 2pin and then these.
That heatsink is mighty and the moveable lugs means it fits and locates better than what we have in the store.
I haven’t tried with a fan yet but prob the ultimate cooling solution and the side blower that will keep all the rest above/below board is a great solution.
Anyone printing these for $ ?
Are there side mounts inside for a 40mm fan?
Hi,
don’t know, what you’re doing with your links, but I can’t follow any of your links.
As for the connectors: I bought a fan without connectors together with a few Molex 510210200 connectors and then swung the soldering iron … has also worked
No, when you connect the fan to the case, the case acts like a big speaker, which amplifies the vibrations and resonances of the fan.
Therefore I fix the fan with double sided adhesive tape with foam inside to decouple fan from case
Dunno as think the links are your side as if they where wrong you would not see them.
That is one mother Ugly Case. Sorry Modelled on this surely.
Bless.
The main problen is finding a heatsink where the vanes go width ways.
This fan is mighty and great as a passive alone in air the cpu will not throttle.
Its the only one with adjustable lugs that can fit any direction so the vanes are right I could find.
So yeah it is a bit big for a case with a fan.
You can get stick on adhesive heatsinks just as does the pi.
I got some 28x28 x20mm height as really that was approx the size I was trying to find and a 30mm fan really.
Also got some adhesive heatsinks for the ram chips that are a perfect fit with a smaller heatsink also.
If you can find a smaller better heatsink and a 30mm fan then go for it.
This one sadly is 59mm across mounts but think its 55mm we need.
Or maybe go dual with someing like these.
so have you already tried the last one? Seems to be the best solution but I’m not sure if it could fit properly
On the 5b I have used the 1st as its lugs are adjustable and its a great heatsink just a little chunky.
I do prefer the gpio 3 pin fans with a 28mm stickon heatsink & 30mm fan from pihut as the profile is smaller.
