[ROM] Rock5A/B AndroidTV 12 by mo123

Hi I have checked and double checked but still not able to see password! Have checked below all download links but nothing that resembles a password or mention of one! I know I’m old but I don’t know why I can’t see it!

Just have a look at post from mo123 from yesterday. The password is right below the download link : for your information the password is Rock5B_5513. If you have 5b just try this Firmware and give your feedback to mo123 that will help him to produce firmware for other devices also. Thanks and Enjoy

@mo123, I tried the firmware on a SD-card;

  • I’ve tried to add a remote from a other android TV box and couldn’t add it anymore.
  • I’ve tried to add a Xiaomi RC, but couldn’t add it (failed to pair)
  • The next day I’ve tried to add the Xiaomi remote again and paired right away. But now the remote isn’t responding to any input
  • On your older build, I’ve used my LG remote through HDMI CEC, but that isn’t working on this build
  • Added 2 Xbox controllers and they work flawlessly, but also got multiple times that they couldn’t pair at first.

Unrelated: My second daughter was born a few weeks ago, so my time for testing is very limited. But feel free to contact me for any further questions.

For the different remotes:

For Android
Post the output of
adb shell getevent -p

Use this app to test the keys on your remotes and then save the keylayout files.
https://apkpure.com/gamepad-tester/ru.elron.gamepadtester/download

For Linux
lsusb | grep Xiaomi
dmesg | grep -i bluetooth
cat /proc/bus/input/devices

HDMI CEC is broken in new firmware, waiting several weeks for Radxa to provide a solution.

Need help to root the latest version please. I have installed software but do not see how to patch the magisk boot image. I run magisk from the already installed software but just get a blank screen! Could someone please give me a simple step by step guide on how to do this? I follow how to install the boot image I think!
Update: I have worked it out ok now just had to do a bit more digging!

Link updated a few posts above for Rock5B.
Fixed HDMI CEC
Fixed some sound issues
Choice between 2 launchers

Test if bluetooth works better.

Hi. I tried new 1.20 firmware. Can’t connect bt remoute ugos ur02. Error: wrong pin or pass. And Will be good if you add Russian language to firmware.

Hi, could you able to Root your 5b in this latest Firmware ? would you mind sharing the steps you did to successfully root your Device please ?
Is your Playstore throwing any error like your Google Device is not certified or something like that ? because in my 5b+ with official Radxa A12 Tablet Firmware it constantly throws this error.
How is the overall performance of this Firmware ? about its Video/Audio playing performance etc etc…
Thanks in advance.

sorry for the Offtopic. Typo

To become certified with access to the play store you have to:
1 - Install a device ID apk to get this Device ID and register it on your google account.
2 - Register it here: https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
3 - Give it a day till google approval happens. (Hours minutes or maybe 1 day not in our control).
4 - Reboot and on Android Settings try to add your google account - that should be it done for the play store to work and remember… reboot

That did the trick. Thank you. When you know so much of info why can’t you cook custom firmware for 5b+ especially Android (ATV Version) ?

To root the device I installed Magisk 26.3,went to modules section and install. You then point it to the Magisk boot.img, not the main firmware img file, which I had in my downloads folder and it then proceeds to patch the img file and creates a new file. Then follow the directions at post one using the developer option and point the required boot.img to the newly created Magisk image file, reboot and that should be that!
I have have had no problems since rooting and Google play store works fine to my surprise! I was able to sideload Nova Launcher and it now works but am not able to place any widgets on Home Screen. I am not used to Android ATV as I don’t seem to install many apps at all and that is the same on the unrooted version, they all have to be side loaded. One strange one is Paramount Plus, it can be installed from Google Play and you can log in and all goes well until you select a program to watch and nothing happens, again this is the same on unrooted version. Spent hours trying to resolve it even in different browsers but same problem. Disney plus, Prime video, Prime music, BBC iplayer, ITVX, channel 4, My5 and Discovery plus all work fine. I have now reverted back to original launcher. Nova Launcher will not work in unrooted version. Checked device was rooted by using “root checker app”. One issue I do have is I am using a Logitech Bolt receiver for keyboard and mouse which works fine but if I select the keyboard in the physical keyboard setting I am unable to change the layout, it does not do anything and this means my uk keyboard does not function properly. It would be good if I could have the option to choose my keyboard layout? Finally, the firmware seems to work with all the hardware that I have tested so far including WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, hdmi sound out and external usb. It’s a work in progress but a great firmware.

Do you have 5b or 5b+ ?

Perharps because I dont know so much info as you think. Specially when this a google recipe. Its how they made things.

I have a 5b and running operating system from SD.
Could someone tell me if this build has widevine installed, if not could you please explain how I go about installing it? Thanks

@jonmuss
It has Widevine L3.
Not possible to use Widevine L1 on Android as it’s not a closed source device.
You can however use LibreELEC + Netflix + Widevine addon or install Kodi + Widevine addon + Netflix on an Ubuntu operating system. I’m not sure which OS is updated to support this, maybe https://github.com/Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip/releases

For Android you can use Chrome browser then Prime Video should play in HD at least compared to the mobile app which is only 480p, need to use an airmouse remote.
For Disney+, you can use the Kodi addon to play 720p at least.

Hello, may I get the password?

May I get the password? Would love to try it out on my Rock 5B.

Hi mo123: which keyboard app should I use on your latest build ? Because my 2.4ghz WiFi keyboard is getting recognised in your room but when start typing the keyboard pops up and I have to press every letter using pointer on tracking pad otherwise the keypad buttons fail to type words… I don’t know why… Any help pls ?

Use this app to get your keyboard vendor, device id

What happens if you disable the onscreen keyboard in Android Settings and type?
