Anyone got reccomendations for 40mm fans with pwm suitable for pi 5. i made my self pi 5 nas with penta sata hat from radxa. made it nice small enclosure. the penta sata hat as a 1.25jst fan header. but cant find adpater cables from jst 1.25mm to jst 2mm (standard fan headers). anyone got reccoemdnations for possible usb 40mm fans even ones with possibility to set fan curves?
Reccomendations for 40mm fans for penta sata hat?
Why just not use raspberry active cooler like everybody? It will not fit out of box, but this is super easy to make it working, just by bending part of radiator.
Sorry i should have clarrifed more, i have an active cooler. the issues is the pi is in a custom made case. were the air flow is limited. since i seen the radxa penta hat has a fan header i wonder if i could use that.
Can You please post photo of this case?
There are two fan options on this HAT, one on the bottom 5V fan header, this one I think it’s fixed to that voltage. Any 5V fan will work there.
Second fan was in optional top board. It was PWM fan controlled by rock pi service. This requires to get right libs and python script.
You can use any of those two. Also You can plug fan into molex connector if You need that. Without further details nobody will know how airflow look in Your case and what will fit there. It’s quite easy to attach some fan, little more difficult to connect and use PWM fan.
I was thinking the optional top board but it would be very wierd to mount on the side of the case. I don’t mind mounting the fan on the outside. The reason why I want some with pwm so I don’t wear out fan with it going 100% 24/7 and be quite audible.
This looks like Michael Klements pi case,
I’m not sure if it can dissipate heat well, it’s plastic case, without proper cooling path, original case is better here, whole metal piece with intake on the bottom and fan on top.
You can just use top hat header to get PWM pins and use fan that You like. Here is description: https://docs.radxa.com/en/accessories/penta-sata-hat/sata-hat-top-board
just use PWM and power pin, top board is nothing else than pwm fan, gpio button and i2c oled screen on one pcb.
the case is micheal klements pi5 nas case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIEjdjS7uVg. a top board will not be possible unless i make modifcations because the ssd trays insert from the top they restrict airflow from the top. i still plan to add 2 more additional drives.hence why 40mm fan on the side.
I don’t suggested to use top board, but to connect fan directly into top board connector. Find any PWM fan that fits there and use above link for pinout.
Ah i see now, now need to figure connectors. thanks for the information
