Radxa 5b+ as backup wan through sim card

Hi I am using radxa 5b+, what I would like to achieve with it is to use it as backup WAN modem for my unifi using sim card.

I have two questions:

  1. Is it possible to work as a modem and pass internet traffic to the unifi cloud gateway.

  2. If above is possible, is following modem ok to use?

  1. You can do anything that you can do with standard linux networking, you can infact use it as a WAN without problems.
  2. This doesn’t work because it’s a miniPCIe modem. You need an m.2 modem that can work in USB mode.

Thank you very much, I didn’t even notice it is a miniPCIe, but looks like some M.2 modems doesn’t support usb mode so I nees to look for the right one, thanks!

Could you help me with one thing, you have mentioned that the previous one I linked use wrong interface(PCIE), as I managed to get it for free I am thinking, is there a chance that it might work through adapter from mini PCIE to M.2? At the end of the day it is usb modem according to the description.

I found following one, two versions with sim or without, if I decide to one of them, which one should I choose?

There is also something like that:

Not a perfect, but still saves me a lot of money as typical modem costs roughly £50, there are some cheap HP modems but I hear that they might not work with non HP hardware.

The whole freq range of regions/networks supported is another but 4G…

I’ve bought another card: Sierra Wireless AirPrime EM7455 - and it does work well!
