Does anyone have advice (or warnings) for selecting a power supply for a SATA hat that powers a Raspberry Pi 5, top board, and four 3.5 inch HDDs?
I’m concerned that 12V 5A will not be enough power, but I’m not sure of the potential downside of using a 12V 6A power supply instead.
I’ve read the Power supply selection documentation, and I don’t see any reference to anything greater than 5A
Will the SATA hat serve 5V to the Pi 5? Any configuration changes needed on the Pi? Advice?
Hello,
I setup a home NAS very similar to yours, without the top board (assuming you mean the one that’s designed to go on top of four 2.5” SSDs, not the HAT itself):
- Raspberry Pi 5
- Radxa Penta SATA HAT
- Four 4TB, 3.5” HDDs
After trying a 65W 19V 3.42A from a local store and not being satisfied with its performance, I purchased an ALITOVE 12V Power Supply 10A 120W AC Adapter from Amazon to power all the hardware. I have had no power problems that I’ve noticed since then.
See this post for the main problem I ran into while building the above and additional details.
Disclaimer that I’m not an expert and am only conveying information that helped me complete a similar setup.
