Out of curiosity: Why WiFi on Radxa Zero works even w/o antenna?

I got Radxa Zero 4gb without headers (that is sad) and with external antenna. But even without antenna it can catch wifi networks. I am curious was it intended?

If the WiFi signal is strong the antenna connector itself will act as the antenna. Or maybe the traces on the board radiate/receive some signal. If you move away from your WiFi router/AP the signal will degrade quickly - but in many cases it will work “well enough” to connect. If you look at the detailed WiFi stats you’ll probably see a lot of error packets.

Put an antenna on it and it will work MUCH better.

Fmm. Impossible to connect to my AP on range more than 5 meters, even if it’s observable.
