Otg and charger cable

Dear forum members,

I’m planning to use my Rock 5B as an external HDD through the OTG feature and at the same time power supply is also needed.

Both can be done on the USB-C port theoretically simultaneously.

So I’m looking for an USB-C splitter cable for this purpose (for OTG i need at least USB 3.0 speed with a standard USB-A female port, the charger port can be USB-C female). I’ve checked and ordered several cables from aliexpress, but the OTG part of them was either only USB 2.0, or even if the OTG was USB 3.0, the Power Supply through the other part of the cable wasn’t strong enough for Rock 5B even though my power supplier works well with the device if i connect it directly.

Could anyone recommend a good, working cable that qualifies the above mentioned requirements?

Hi Rockpi_fan,
I have never tried otg but I’m pretty sure you have to use USB3 port and not usbc:

  • 1x USB3 HOST port, 1x USB3 OTG port

That documentation is incorrent/misleading. The 5B model has the OTG functionality with its USB-C port
