New Radxa zero 4G / 16 eMMC. No boot from box?

Hi, I’ve just received a new Radxa Zero. I understand it should have Android pre installed on the eMMC.

When I power it up without an SD card there is no HDMI output and I just get a steady green LED.

From your experience with the board do you think I have a faulty board or is there some other likely explanation?

More Info:
I’ve connected a serial cable to the device and I’m getting continuous output:

The majority of Zero users want to install a Linux OS, so it makes sense to ship the devices blank so that it’s trivial to load an OS from SD card, than to pre-install Android which is often tricky to exorcise from eMMC to get another OS installed and booting … is my guess at the reason.

Android is not preinstalled to avoid confusion. You can install Android from:

Great, thanks for the responses. I don’t want Android installed. I wasn’t aware of the change. https://wiki.radxa.com/Zero/getting_started states “Radxa Zero is preloaded with Android in the eMMC”.
