Looks like Radxa is not the only company looking at Cix.
MS-R1 has dual 10GbE instead of dual 5GbE and is more ‘thin terminal’ formfactor than mini-itx one.

It’s strange that the article mentions 2x10G while showing a photo on which “2.5G LAN” is written above each port. I’m wondering if they have other info or if they’re recycling some parts of another article (or the reporter just being confused by seeing too much hardware there, which is also a possibility).
In the video there is an info plate where “2.5 GbE” is changed to “10 GbE” with a pen.
I’m guessing they’re re-using the MS-01 chassis for their prototype build. Would love to see if they can resolve some of the power/firmware issues (or if they are running into the same ones as Radxa).
Seems like Cix has a golden opportunity to be the not-Apple/not-Qualcomm higher end consumer Arm chip maker here. I hope they don’t waste it!
That (somewhere floating around) AMI bios might’ve put some trust for other vendors to step their toes into this product range. Competition is always good but I’ve always looked at the Orion O6 as a pretty devkit than a consumer product so other implementations are interesting to see
I bet it uses those Q4 releasing new Realtek 10GbE Nic’s. They’re max 2w and are PCIe Gen4x1
This looks pretty sweet.
I finally got my O6 running with Fedora Rawhide with a Radeon Pro Wx5100 in a Node 202 case - couple of quirks, still, like can’t get more than 3 screens working - when I use the Radeon the internal video won’t run wayland (no driver? works fine w/o the Radeon) - combined that could run 6 (or 8 with USB-C/DP?) screens. And only 8 cores instead of 12 is a bummer. But other than that that’s finally the performance I want from an Arm PC. This beats my i7-4790 hands down (java benches), so no slouch in 50W (with the 5100).
I am curious if Minisforum gets all those quirks fixed (guess it’ll be the same with the EDK UEFI BIOS being the same?). 10G is sweat, for sure, but the dual 5Gb work just fine -my NFS drives max out at 500MB/s anyway. Also wonder how much the MS-R1 will be.
But are we finally entering the age of open Arm PCs? That’ll be awesome.
