Need quick tutorial on how third party images are created

Hi,

I want to create an install image for distros of my choice (ie not be limited to Debian, Ubuntu that are officially supported). I see that older models have better list of community supported distros.
Is there a guide on how these are created?

Usually by a distro enthusiast but older boards tend to have much more mainlined so this makes things easier.
There are a rake of tools such as debos, buildroot, armbian build and distro specific ones and favorites.
