Max current draw from 5V GPIO

According to this comment, the Rock 5 B’s power chip can support up to 20v 5a (100w).

If that’s the case, how much current can I draw from the 5v pin on the GPIO without damaging it? Or is there any power source on the board closer to that chip I could use? It would be great to be able to draw about 20w, then I could power 5 SATA SSDs without any additional power modules.

Woah, man, you wanna draw 4A from gpio?

Tl:dr it’s impossible

All right, good to know. Is there any other way to tap into that 100W available from the power supply?

You have a few choices. First and most simple one - use PSU. The second one requires soldering and DC–DC converters. I’m using this scheme
