There is the idea that one person, can never predict an outcome accurately or precisely, but outsource the question to a large diverse crowd of people (“Wisdom of the crowd”) and statistically they will produce a normal distribution. I am very interested to see what the result will be.
The Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) has already started (2025-01-29) and lasts for 15 days (2025-02-13 which is a Thursday). This board is scheduled to ship sometime after that, when do you think that will be ? (I’ve removed Saturdays and Sundays because they are generally rest days in China, and most of the world). I am not asking when you think it will arrive into your hands, because that will vary depending on the shipping method you choose and where you are in the world, what I am asking is when do you think that the board will start its journey towards you. You can pick one to three dates.
Mine’s already on its way, shipped on the 27th - on the 3rd-last slide of the announcement presentation PDF it says orders received before the 31st of December would ship on or before the 27th of January (as long as you didn’t order the “AI PC” case/parts kit) and it appears they at least partially kept that promise. It’s almost disturbing how little time it’s taken since announcement, considering the usual state of things with SBC SoCs and SBCs.
Well, the hardware is shipping while the software will take some time even if it looks quite good for this stage called ‘debug party’. I’m really hoping (for Radxa) not too many O6 early adopters becoming angry…
Oh i’m quite aware! I helped with some RK3588 mainline bringup work back when Pine64 first shipped a bunch of QuartzPro64s out to developers; multiple years later we’re only just getting functional HDMI output on mainline, and the list of things that don’t work is still longer than the list of things that do. Pretty standard state of affairs for most ARM SoCs/SBCs.
That’s why it’s so refreshing to see a SoC vendor not only commit to a full ACPI/UEFI implementation and actively upstreaming drivers/support, but actually start executing on that promise, rapidly, without just handing it over to a third party and washing their hands of it - assuming they follow through at all - like usual.
Remains to be seen if they’ll keep it up, but I’m cautiously optimistic.
@Mad_ad I’ve asked their support and they said that O6 64GB (not AI Kits) would be shipped “around next week” and AI PC Kits - “around end of March”. Therefore I’ve asked them to cancel AI PC Kit from my order, as I don’t want to wait until end of March
Has your order shipped by now? I ordered from Allnet on January 1 and haven’t heard anything more yet. The product page still says “expected to ship before the end of February.”
I ordered from ALLNET although latish, early February and w/32GB option(64GB was too much of an ask for my use case although it would have been preferable ofc slotted RAM would have been MUCH more preferable to begin with…))
So, Imma kinda expecting to get screwed on shipping and maybe not see it until some time in the summer, when I will be busy outdoors in the summer when the weather is actually nicish… so it will sit and rot for a few months, although I did order it a nice jonsbo mini itx case, an ax210 wifi, and we’ll see if my old evga 1070 works(replaced it on my main machine w/an intel arc a770 which all things considered is a nice upgrade as I also added 1440p monitors and the a770, intel discrete gfx in general handle higher res much better, then weirdly tail off at 1080p…
One of my personal main points will be trying box64 FEX whatever trying steam just for fun as I don’t expect much, but maybe better I should especially if I have a decent dGPU running… I might even look to buy a selection of dGPUs off of ebay or the like to try out, but I’d be more interested in ones that can provide tensor cores/compute which rules out AMD(ATI) since they gave up on that a LONG time ago… and they’re space heaters…
so more realistically things fail I might pick up an a580 or b580 to use on the O6 assuming that it can be made to work, and I was just reading on reddit that perhaps forcing PCIe gen3 might ‘fix’ those cards as they’re PCIe gen4 IIRC and the post implied negotiation problems w/gen4 cards… little loss of theoretical bandwidth will be little loss overall hopefully…
XMX tensor cores are quite performant, so honestly AMD/ATI would be a last resort effort in which case Id try really old ATI card, e.g. R9(7?) 270 or 280x cards just for video accel… but probably even then seriously look at iGPU of the I forget the model number of this chip, but whatever MALI 710/720 it has as its iGPU and panfrost driver… in which Ill be going wish that I had paid 200+ more for 64GB… (yeah the 32->64GB upgrade was insanely expensive for my price estimate… as in it would’ve been almost cheaper to buy 2 32GB and cluster them and take the latency hit if I really needed the extra…)
eh… either way this is an experijmental/affordable(for my purposes) board to look at some more performant ARM arch… and well, yeah, my consolation prize for sophgo fscking up so I didn’t get my milkv oasis(RISCV P550), but TBH my forward view is RISCV performant CPU designs, looking at milkv megrez boards ATM, but…
I ordered end of December at Allnet.ch.
End of Jan. they said delivery end of Feb.
Asking for confirmed Shipment date last week got no answer until today.
Very unprofessional.
Early adoptors need support.
They are putting my project on risk.
And their sales.
personally a dont take that much, yet, as the firmware is in such early state that i will be unlikely to use it. ALso by the end of feb, we just got there too.
Just as another point of reference, I ordered from Arace on December 18, and as of today I still see:
Your order is confirmed
You’ll receive an email when your order is ready.
We’re nearly to March, I would rather the firmware and things like ACPI be shored up before the boards ship than get the board in the state it’s currently in (which is fine for early adopters, but will be surprising to many if they bought this expecting an Ampere-like experience!).
Though I am using my ‘Kickstarter’ mindset for this pre-order, where I figure if it ships within 12 months of the original expected shipping date, I’ll be pleased
Not everyone is so generous with their patience (and rightly so, the pre-order was advertised as shipping around the end of Feb!).
There are still a couple days left in the month of course…
I got the following reply:
"For your order, I checked your order and it belongs to the first batch.
But for all who purchased AI PC Kits, we will ship the Kits by the end of march.
If you want to ship the board first, I can refund the payment of Radxa Orion O6 AI PC Kits, then I will ship the board to you tomorrow.
You can reorder the AI kits after they are available."
As the Website now specifies shipping end of march for batch2 I think they may have some stock reseved for the batch1+AI kit orders?
I thought about cancelling the AI kit, but ordering it later would cost another 58€ for shipping.
I asked for a more reasonable shipping option, else I will wait another month.
