Well, the Raspberry Pi folks, also, picked one O.S. and stuck with it faithfully. That by itself makes a huge difference.

As far as I know they didn’t develop Raspbian, they adopted it and then did what they needed to on top. The name change to Raspi OS has more to do with Raspbian not ever going to be aarch64 and the Foundation wanting to go that route eventually. Although I could be wrong or could be more to the story? I try to stay out of politics.
Give it time and you’ll find something solid to run on the board.
