Cups/Printer not printing even though job is claimed as "complete"

Hi,

I am trying to use a usb label printer for my rock pi 4a but it doesn’t print at all.

I have installed cups onto my rock pi with the Debian Buster image and have used dpkg -i to install my printer driver from the official Brother printer page (https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=au&lang=en&prod=lpql810weas) and when I use CUPS to add the printer with the correct driver, the rock pi recognises the printer in the usb slot. I setup the printer correctly (the correct settings and label size and all that).

When i go to print a test page, 20% of the time the cups message will be “sending to printer” and then the job will disappear as if it is completed, but nothing will print, the rest of the time when I select “print test page” on cups, nothing will appear in the job.

It makes me think it is a driver issue but I have done this exact setup with a raspberry pi and have had no issues (same driver and everything). I don’t suppose anyone else has had problems like this?

Cheers

You can try the same with Armbian https://www.armbian.com/rockpi4/
