Checking board is good

I am doing the check to see if the rock 5b is good. Have it usb to usb-c from my windows pc. Here is what I see, there is an ‘unknown device’, assume this means board is working as it shows up.

Wondering if I plug in a hdmi monitor at this point with no boot image what should I see, will I see anything (or do I need to get the boot image installed first)?

nothing is displayed at maskrom mode. it’s just for flashing (installing) images via USB.

you need to install any image to see something on HDMI monitor.

To get recognised You will need rockchip driver: https://github.com/rockchip-linux/tools/raw/master/windows/DriverAssitant_v4.91.zip
