Booting FydeOS on the NVMe

Greetings all,

Has anyone succeeded in booting FydeOS with an NVMe? I have yet to figure this out. I was told that it would support UEFI with version 19.0 but that is not the case at least not with the EDK2 version…

(Hell, I could not even get it to run from the NVMe on my Raspberry PI 5.)

I downloaded the Generic ARMBIAN UEFI version as I had installed EDK2 and it booted into a GRUB menu. I had FydeOS imaged to a USB thumb drive and it showed in the GRUB menu for fun I selected the USB drive and it said that the kernel was not compiled to use the boot loader or something to that nature.

(If anyone is wondering?) Yes, I asked about this on FydeOS discord. They told me version 19.0 should work with UEFI or just install GRUB for version 18.

I have no idea how to get GRUB to work with the ROCK 5b.

Thank you,

Del Mar

Try this Firmware from this link.

Just use RPI Imagery to burn the image onto NVMe if Balena Etcher is not recognizing it. I could succeed in installing it and booting from NVMe. FYI i have 5b+

Hey Manu,

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if the rock 5b+ has better support. I tried what you shared, It booted from an SDcard but not the NVMe.

I tried with boot images “rock-5b_UEFI_Release_v0.12.2.img” and “rock-5b-spi-image-gd1cf491-20240523.img”.
I used this loader rk3588_spl_loader_v1.15.113.bin

Is there a specific boot loader that I may need? I know the rock 5b and 5b+ have some small differences.

Thanks,

Del Mar

No , you don’t need any other special loader. I used the latest firmware with this loader 1.15.113. Radxa board are very tricky. I couldn’t also get it to boot in the first attempt.
Keep trying if you want to use it at any cost to succeed. That’s what I did and it booted on 3rd attempt. Just sharing my experience, may not be the same in your case.
As for as the hardware is concerned between 5b & 5b+ there is no much difference and the firmware are compatible with each other according to one of the Radxa-Team developer. Good luck :+1:.
