Booting from M2

Hi,
I am a veteran Windows user and a completely noob with Linux.
I have Ubuntu installed on a couple of RPI, running from SSD’s.
My motivation is to kick out windows completely and move to Linux.

I got myself a Rock 5B, installed the extra RAM plus an M2 disk.
Both these are visible in the file system.
I currently run Debian from a micro-SD card.

Can somebody provide link to instructions to boot my 5B from an M2 SSD? - or provide a good set of working instructions? I am a bit scared to do this as a noob, since I don’t want to brick it.

I run Debian from a memory card, but would it to boot from the M2.
My preference is Ubuntu since I use that on my RPIs.

The RPI 4 has an option to go on the web when booting and load + install OS without anything other than a keyboard, mouse, monitor and a network connection, just as long as you press the shift-key when booting.
Does anything similar exist for the rock 5B?

Thank you for any help provided.

Olav

Boot from NVMe SSD

After you write the image to NVMe SSD, to boot from the NVMe SSD, you need to write the bootloader to SPI flash. Check Install to SPI to boot from NVMe SSD.

*1. Install the image to M.2 NVME SSD

*2. Install the bootloader to the SPI NOR flash

*3. remove the sd card, plug in the nvme and power on

Thanks a lot for your help.
I am now booting from the M2.

Wait, what? You can’t install extra RAM.

Maybe you mean that you plugged in an eMMC card?

I stand corrected. eMMC 32GB. As shown in the pic.
