Boot Rock5 with nvme and no micro sd

I followed the guide and can get the Rock5 to boot from nvme when the sd card is inserted. But cannot boot when SD card is not inserted. I would like to be able to not use the sd card. is this possible, how?

yes, You don’t need anything else than nvme
with right u-boot in spi and system image

thats the thing. I installed the spi. Armbien will not boot unless I leave the sd card in. As soon as I remove the sd card and boot I just get black screen.

If I image the nmve with ubuntu. It boots right up, no SD card.

What do you think could be the problem?

Probably just wrong image for u-boot, Armbian is not consistent that much, when I checked it some time ago different image was needed for debian variant than for jammy. With UART it’s fairly easy to see what it tries to boot. Of course this may already changed, but just be careful with such announcements, try boot other alternatives if needed and maybe ask for specific versions on their forums.

Thank you everyone. New boot loader worked great and got wifi working.
