Audio device dummy when using 3.5 mm jack

Tried Ubuntu 20.04 & 20.10, non of them could automatically identify and mount the NAU88L24 correctly, the setting interface shows audio device is dummy.

How to fix it?

I bought 2 X2L’s I have tried LMDE 6 and MX Linux. I have no audio on LMDE 6 but It kinda worked on MX Linux but it acted strange. It seemed to switch from speakers to headphones back and forth like 10 times a minute. I needed WiFi on the MX Linux one and ended up adding a wifi/bluetooth card and just use extra bluetooth speakers. Audio is not a critical on the other X2L sooo… I plan to get more X2L’s later I hope to have audio. I only use Linux. I would like to see this solved. I will need audio on a couple of these units. I would like to have a solution before I commit to more.

NAU88L24? how did you connect to the board? the on board audio codec is ALC269.

What do you mean “It seemed to switch from speakers to headphones back and forth like 10 times a minute”, Will it interrupt normal audio and video playback? we are verified audio function on Ubuntu 22.04, can you provide the detail version of LMDE and MX linux?

We install LMDE 6, the ALC269 just been mute, you can adjust the volume by alsamixer (alsamixer -c 0), then can hear from the headphones

Sorry for the slow response. Bad work day and a day at hospital with family.

In MX Linux I tried different PC speakers and initially got angry white noise. When I turn the volume to 4% (-83 dB) audio is clear. If I go above 10% I hear clipping. Anything above 15% is just static. The audio mixer shows the device is Headphones (plugged in). The new speakers are amplified and probably are 4-8 ohms. The board believes that headphones are connected which have a much higher impedance, maybe 30-80 ohms. So it’s probably OVERDRIVING the output for speakers. I can select Speakers in the audio mixer but speakers show (unavailable). If I select speakers, the audio mixer switches to the bluetooth output as if to say “hey don’t do that”. It kinda acts like a desktop PC with a headphone jack in the front. I wonder if that is the driver or does the X2L decide what device is connected? I’m not sure if the headphones I had earlier were bad. I can’t find them because they are my sons. He took them I suppose. I will try LMDE later on other X2L and let you know if it is broken. I put a different NVME in for now to test something pressing so another day I will try. Thank you for installing LMDE to test for me. I can work with it even if it’s overdriving. I can adjust that with a resistor or matching transformer if I have to. I really like these boards. I have x86 and RP2040. I can rule, I mean save the world with a single PCB. I work on telecom and audio equipment as well as IP Camera. If you hear nothing else from me I’m fine. Otherwise I’ll bother you again if I need to later.
Thank you Thank youWalker Young

The audio level jumped up and down quickly. In the audio mixer it shows: Built in Analog Stereo device mixer with (speakers) or (headphones). I cannot find headphones now son took them… See other post more description.
