I am running the latest Armbian rolling release on my Rock 5 ITX, kernel 6.18.0.
Has anyone had any luck outputting 8K video from the HDMI port?

Hi, according to my current experience this is impossible, at least for usable refresh rate. I struggle to get 5K at 60 Hz for my Rock 5B (same RK3588 as in your case). I play with this for already more than 2 weeks and the best I achieved so far is 5K@39 using current Armbian with 6.115 vendor kernel and X11. 5K@39 demands exactly 594 MHz pixel clock, which is (according to ChatGPT) the current kernel limit for RK3588. I tried 6.12 and 6.18 kernels too, but wasn’t able to go anywhere higher than 4K.
Note that 5K@39 (or any other resolution/refresh rate combination not available out of the box) is possible only with X11. There is no way to set custom res./freq. when using Wayland.
BTW, according to this page 8K should be possible after switching from Panthor to Mali GPU driver: Switch GPU driver | Radxa Docs . But (according to chatGPT) this does not provide the real 8K experience as it compress video data to meet the 594 MHz pixel clock limit. I still wasn’t able to get anything higher than 5K@30 following the info on mentioned page.
