One more topic about FAN

I never used the official images and don’t have a Rock 5C so I can’t help further. If you must use them, maybe try not upgrading the packages next time, I don’t have any other ideas.

You can try this tip:

  • after you follow the steps above, use your finger to spin the fan clockwise

Sometimes there is not enough torque to start spinning.

  • Boot up the board and check the state:

cat /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device?/type
cpufreq-cpu0
cpufreq-cpu4
cpufreq-cpu6
devfreq-dmc
devfreq-fb000000.gpu-mali
pwm-fan

pwm-fan device in my kernel is 5:
cat /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device5/cur_state
4

If I set the state to 1 (not enough torque, it stops spinning) and later put it to 4, the fan won’t start spinning. I have to help it, and then it keeps spinning. This is the reason i still have passive cooling.

PS: my fan (no radxa logo) and board are the early ones.

Comparing this fan (Rock 5B , not the plus) to a Rock 5C fan, Rock 5C fan screams like an F1 V10 fully throttled.
